What is the survey about
Tourism Research Australia (TRA) have contracted Roy Morgan to conduct a large research survey about international tourism in Australia. We are Australia’s leading provider of quality tourism statistics in Australia.
This is the International Visitor Survey. It will help us to collect vital data to strengthen Australia’s tourism industry and help create a better travel experience for visitors.
Who is conducting the research
Roy Morgan is conducting in-person interviews with departing international visitors aged 15 years and over at most major international airports in Australia:
- Adelaide
- Brisbane
- Cairns
- Darwin
- Gold Coast
- Melbourne
- Perth
- Sydney
The Field Research Officers from Roy Morgan will clearly identify themselves and will provide you with information if you have any questions before or after the interview.
Roy Morgan is a company partner of The Research Society, and abides by the Code of Professional Behaviour.
How long will the survey take
The survey will take approximately 12 minutes to complete though this will depend on your answers (it may be shorter or longer).
What questions will I be asked
We will ask you some questions about:
- your country of residence
- where you arrived and where you travelled in Australia
- the types of activities undertaken
- the accommodation and form of transport you used
- how much you spent
- your satisfaction with your visit.
We will also ask you some personal details such as your age, marital status and employment status.
We ask these questions to ensure that we speak to a wide range of people and understand all of Australia’s international visitors.
Is my information safe
Yes, absolutely. All data is collected under strict privacy guidelines, compliant with the Australian Government Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988.
The data we receive at the end of the survey period will not contain your contact details, or any other information that could identify you or any other respondent.
How will the survey results be used
We publish detailed quarterly survey results in March, June, September and December.
The information collected in the survey helps the tourism industry, researchers, and all levels of government better understand Australia’s visitor economy. With this information, we can work together to improve the tourism experience for all international visitors.
